Who Am I?

I know, I know. There are billions of other people on this planet, and I’m certain 99.9% of them are all far better, wiser, and way more talented or experienced than I am. That’s ok, because we don’t always need the best of the best out there…sometimes we just need someone willing to share their experiments, failures, and successes with us while we find our next steps. That is where I come in.

My name is Rachel Martin. I’m mother to a 5 ring circus, complete with animals, side shows, and gratefully married to this circus’s ring leader (who happens to also be my best friend from childhood). We live in a small town in Northern Utah where I also work as a substitute teacher for the 2 school districts here as well as being a partner in a small business called the Handcrafter’s Lair. So in addition to getting to show up in just about any random class on any given day, professionally I’m also a crochet designer, avid fiber fiend, muddy gardener, amateur photographer, music and kitchen fan, compulsive teacher, and a botanical spa product creator/producer. I’m most powerfully, however, mother and active member/student of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

So truthfully, as I said, I’m not *the* expert to go to about stuff. That is not to say that I don’t know anything worth sharing…it means that I’m not about to pretend to be the best at anything. I am, however, someone happy to share my journey with folks interested in learning along with me as I navigate this adventure we call life. I’m documenting things and sharing here in the hopes that people who are interested in learning about similar things will find it useful, but also to help myself persist as I try to improve and reach for my goals. It is said that people are 65% more likely to stick to their goals if they let others know about it, so this is part of my way of doing that (without blasting it across Facebook and then forgetting about it). Plus this way I can look back to see what has and hasn’t been working so I’ll hopefully be smart enough to know what to focus on/with as I move forward.

I called this blog “Fail With Me, Rachel” because I know I need the reminder that failing to meet my goals is just another step in the process towards successfully reaching those end points, and because I hope that together we can help each other change the ways we define “failure”. Ok, and so that it gives us all permission to fail, and fail, and fail again on our journey towards successfully reaching towards our end goals.

Ok, so now you know a bit about who I am and why I’m offering up this blog (and eventually a vlog). I hope to continue to see you around! Come find me on Instagram, Facebook, or Reddit and likely soon on Pinterest and YouTube and lets share our stories and help each other out!
